Timothy Elkin McHugh, of Mineral Bluff, passed into the arms of Jesus on December 13, 2025. He is preceded in death by his father, David E. McHugh, brother, David R. McHugh and son, Clay McHugh.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Sallie Burns McHugh, loving daughters, Abbie and Claire McHugh, mother, Eugenia (Jean) McHugh, sister, Deborah Vizurraga, brother, Brett McHugh (Diane), sister-in-law, Susan Murphy and several nieces and nephews.
Tim was born November 26, 1957, in New Orleans, LA. He also lived in Jacksonville, MS before moving to Doraville, GA in 1968. Tim knew from an early age that he wanted to work in construction and operated a general contracting business out of Cumming, GA for 44 years.
A job well done, a satisfied client, and many friendships made along the way were very rewarding for him. His adventures as a contractor led to many stories that he recalled with ease and humor. Tim never met a stranger and his inviting spirit and gift on conversation were the beginnings of many dear and lifelong friendships
Tim attended Longstreet Baptist Church in Cumming, GA for many years and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Mineral Bluff. He loved the Lord and gave God the glory for his ability to overcome many health challenges. His final 1 ½ year battle leukemia was fought with faith, courage and strength. Tim’s positive outlook inspired many people. Tim declared his baptism on August 10, 2025, as the best day of his life.
Tim’s dream of moving to the North Georgia cabin he built came true in December 2023; but we know the beauty of his beloved mountains cannot compare to what he is seeing, now, in Heaven!
A Celebration of Tim’s Life will be held Monday, December 22, at 2:00 p.m. at Longstreet Baptist Church with Rev. Sam Castleberry, Rev. Doug Carnes, Rev. Henry Wade, and Rev. Paul Adams officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Tim’s name to the American Cancer Society - ACS Hope Lodge, 6801 Ardmore St., Houston, TX 77054 https://raiseyourway.donordrive.com/HopeLodgeHouston or Halo House Foundation, 2940 Corder St., Houston, TX. 77054, https://www.halohousefoundation.org/
