Victor Lavon Lee, age 88, was born July 24, 1924 in Blue Mountain, Mississippi. He was the son of Victor Leon Lee and Hermie Childers Lee. During his infancy, the family relocated to the Kirkwood community in southeast Atlanta. Victor graduated from Tech High School in 1942 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy Reserve in January, 1943. He was a Torpedoman 3rd Class in the Submarine Force, serving in R4 and then was a member of the commissioning crew of USS CROAKER (SS 246). He made Japanese war patrols in the Pacific. After the end of WWII, he attended Georgia State University and then accepted an appointment to the Railway mail division of the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1980. He married LaVerne Wilson, a Kirkwood neighbor in 1975 and lived in Suwanee, Georgia. They moved to Otto, North Carolina in 1998 and then relocated to Lanier Village Estates, Gainesville, Georgia during its opening of March, 2001. His dear wife LaVerne passed away on December 20, 2002 in their Village home. Victor (Vic) was Past National President of the WWII United States Submarine Veterans, and also a life member of United States Submarine Veterans, Incorporated. He was a member of Northlake Baptist Church, Gainesville. Victor is survived by a brother Eugene Harold Lee of Meridian, Mississippi, a nephew James Scott Lee, Lake Worth, Florida, nieces Suzie Grennan, Orlando, Florida, Pricilla Lee Madsen, Mamouth Hot Springs, Wyoming, Cindy Lee Burton, Midlothian, Virginia and a special friend, whom he loved and cherished as a foster son, Doug Drake of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee. The burial will be at the family plot, Sawnee Memorial Gardens, Cumming, Georgia, on Friday, November 16th at 1:00 pm. Ingram Funeral Home & Crematory, Cumming, Georgia is in charge of arrangements.
