Obituary

Wayne David Morgan Jr., son of Wayne David Morgan Sr. and Elizabeth

Buff Morgan, passed away on May 13, 2026, at age 85. He spent his early

years in Moultrie and later Unadilla, Georgia, where he met the love of

his life, Judith (Judy) Brannen. They married on July 8, 1964. Wayne and

Judy spent the majority of their lives in Stone Mountain, Georgia,

where they raised their family, and later made their home in Cumming,

Georgia, for the past 15 years.

A graduate of Unadilla High School, Wayne attended Auburn

University, joined the Kappa Sigma Fraternity, and earned a degree in

Industrial Management. A proud Auburn alumnus and lifelong Auburn

fan, Wayne rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on the Tigers — a

passion enthusiastically shared and encouraged by his granddaughter

Abbey and his son-in-law, Dan. After graduation, he served as a Captain

in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.

Wayne spent more than 40 years in banking, including roles with the

First National Bank of Atlanta and Regions Financial. After retiring, he

devoted countless hours to volunteer service through Emory

Healthcare at Emory Johns Creek Hospital and the Winship Cancer

Institute. He had a genuine passion for people and never met a

stranger, finding great purpose and joy in serving patients, visitors, and

families with kindness, conversation, and compassion.

A devoted family historian, Wayne dedicated countless hours to tracing

his family’s genealogy back to the early 1200s in Scotland.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Judith Brannen Morgan;

his sons, Wayne David Morgan III (Daniel) of Atlanta, GA, and Kenneth

Scott Morgan (Ginger) of Canton, GA; his brother, Raymond Morgan,

and sisters, Beth West and Frances Shaw; five granddaughters:

Madelon Morgan, Abigail Morgan Noel, Makay Morgan, Kensley

Morgan Clark, and Avery Morgan.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to his caregiver, Mavis Chiyambiro

of Tanaka Care Services, and the staff of Pruitt Hospice for their

exceptional care during his final months. There are truly angels among

us. The tenderness of their care for “Big Pappa” was such a blessing to

Dad and us.

A celebration of life will be held 1:00 pm Thursday, May 21, 2026 at Johns Creek UMC with  Rev. Dr. Dee Shelnutt officiating.
